on our way to la mussara the rain began again so we bailed no more climbing for a while sorry are now on the mediteranean coast in sitges interesting scene tomorrow london

just could not post last night had too much to eat and especially to drink yesterday there was some sun in the morning so we first did the monastary thing to give the rock time to dry then back to mont ral where the approach was no longer running with water but the rock was still a little damp and a little slick nice sharp pockets though did several easy short routes and then fell off a 6a several times (10b for you americans) could be worse like they say when you see a dog playing piano do not complain that he is no good just be impressed that he is doing it at all grey again today with rain on the way but we will have a look at la mussara anyway

we remain in montblanc we are living well and gaining about a kilo a day due to the superb cooking of our host´s wife carme in the morning the sky was threatening but it was not actually raining hope springs eternal so we set out and found our way to the small mountain town of mont ral we should have known the guide suggests access by a dry river (creek) bed but this was running with water we went on and found the climbs which looked fun but were wet so back to the wine tour and more very heavy rain through the afternoon

we are not just in a nice hotel we are in a very nice hotel fonda cal blasi our host carlos is more than gracious and is making life easy for us pray for sun

now we are even more terrified as michael has been reading all the internet sites about street crime in barcelona however after consulting the very nice sales people at the barcelona north face store ( only clothing) we were referred to a local climbing store we were able to find the place and a local climbing dude sold us a small guide and gave us the beta for easy climbs in montserrat all in spanish of course which caused some consternation how hard is this really how to get down etc etc a number of connections (metro train cable car cog train trail) got us to gorro frigi (a conglomerate dome) where we were able to find the first bolt of a mellow five pitch climb it turned out much as we thought it had been described and all had a good time even diane weather was coming in as we topped out and the rain hit us just before we got back to the cog train down it seems a good area and we did not see one other climber so we do not understand “never again” walter bonatti he must have been having a bad day

after more tourism and a spa day (all in beautiful weather) we turned south to begin climbing for real and of course it began to rain for real like a cow pissing on a rock and it does not look like it is going to stop for some time so now we are holed up in a nice hotel in medieval montblanc but we can still wine tour which is what diane wanted to do anyway

diane and i have been regularly to the climbing gym and we have the excellent rockfax guides but we are terrified the climbing in spain sounds way to hard for us but we will bloody well try now off to the airport
