3 - Customising Your Blog

Having set up and written your first blog entries, you may want to make some changes to your blog to customise it to your own preferences.

Editing CategoriesThe first thing you may want to do is add a few Categories so that you can categorise your blog entries. Topics like climbing, life, family, work, etc. can be added as categories and then assigned to each blog entry. From the Blog Admin link, click on Manage and Categories to get a list of your existing categories. You can add new categories and editing existing ones on this page.

The category called Blogroll is a special category which is used for all your links to other sites- see below. If you don’t like the title ‘blogroll’ for this (which will always appear on the right-hand side-bar of your blog) then this is the place to edit it to something else. You can also edit the category called General if you wish but you can’t delete either of these two categories.

Assigning categories to blog entriesOnce you have added a category, it will appear in the right-hand side bar every time you write a new blog entry. Each blog entry can be in any number of categories.

Another aspects of your blog which you can customise is the Blogroll. The Blogroll is just a collection of links to other web sites. UKClimbing.com is added as a default (but you can remove this if you wish). Use the top menu bars to edit your blogroll.

Adding pages to your blogYou can also add Pages to your blog. Pages are permanent links from the right-hand side-bar of your blog. They are like blog entries, and are edited in the same way, but they are not ranked by date and always appear in side-bar of your blog. Pages are usually used for things like ‘About Me’ pages and other pages which remain relevant to the blog. What you are reading at the moment is a page of the ROCKFAX News blog.

There are many other things you can do to your blog of which coloured text is just a start. To be perfectly honest we haven’t figured out all the features yet! If you find any extra features then please let us know.

At present, we aren’t offering any Themes (different appearances and colours for the text and backgrounds in your blog). The software can deal with them though and we may well add them at a alter date.
